MellowBase. Our content platform, run for you.

MellowBase is our open-source Content Operations Platform, run by Polynovea. Your team gets the same way to plan, structure, write, review, approve and publish content, without setting up servers, databases or updates. It isn't a separate product: it's the same platform, made safe for many organisations to share.

From sign-up to your first published page.

The aim is that a new team can go from nothing to published content without needing anyone to set anything up for them.

  2. Create your organisation
  3. Pick a starter kit
  4. Invite your team
  5. Review and approve

How MellowBase is designed to work. Not yet available.

What we'll run for you.

Hosting and upgrades

We run the servers, the database and the background jobs, and keep everything up to date, so your team only works on content.

Backups that are tested

Backups only count as working once restoring them has actually been tested, for the whole service and for a single organisation.

Two-step sign-in from day one

Every account signs in with a password and an authenticator app. Sessions can be ended, and removed teammates lose access straight away.

Each organisation kept apart

Your content, files and settings are separated from every other organisation's, and that separation is tested before anything is switched on.

Monitoring and support

We watch the service, deal with incidents and help when something goes wrong. Support staff can't casually browse your content.

Clear plans and limits

You can see your plan, your usage and your limits in one place, instead of finding out when something stops working.

Small additions, kept light.

MellowBase will add a few things that make day-to-day content work easier. Where they make sense, they'll come to the open-source version too. It will stay a content platform, not grow into everything else.

  • Starter kits for blogs, documentation, product catalogues and knowledge bases
  • A content calendar for scheduled releases and deadlines
  • Ready-made review and approval workflows you can adjust
  • A clear list of what changes before each release goes out
  • A content health view: missing fields, broken links, stale pages
  • One inbox for everything that needs your attention
  • Preview links for outside reviewers that expire on their own
  • A warning of what a structure change will affect before you make it
What it won't become
  • A visual website builder
  • A project-management suite or a CRM
  • A marketing automation platform
  • A tool for monitoring employees
  • A source of behaviour scores about the people on your team

Your content, and a way out.

You will be able to export your content models, your content and its versions, your media and your site structure, in a form you can run on the open-source version yourself. Leaving shouldn't depend on our goodwill.

When you close an organisation, its data is designed to be deleted everywhere it lives: the database, file storage, search, caches and the keys for your integrations, with backups expiring on a published schedule.

Research, declared up front.

MellowBase is designed to contribute structured records of how content work moves, such as steps, timing, reviews, approvals and who worked with whom, to HBIF, our research into how people behave. It's on by default, and we say so plainly rather than hiding it in small print.

Names, email addresses, logins and passwords are removed before anything reaches research, and your actual content isn't part of it. People we know are under 18 are excluded. It is never used to judge or make decisions about anyone, and MellowBase won't show you behaviour profiles or scores of individual people.

Your organisation can switch off future contribution in its settings at any time, and MellowBase keeps working exactly the same. Records already contributed are kept only for the declared research period. None of this starts until MellowBase's research notice is published. How our research handles data →

The road to launch.

Each step has to be finished properly before the next one starts. We'll update this as it moves.

  1. FoundationsBuilt and tested internally

Organisations are kept apart, sign-in requires two steps and teams can be invited and removed. Tested by us, not yet by customers.

  2. Building the hosted serviceUnder way

Setting up new organisations automatically, plans and billing, file storage, backups and restores, and the product screens around them.

  3. Security and privacy reviewNot started

Everything is checked again before any customer is let in, including account recovery and how our own staff access the service.

  4. Private betaNot started

A small group of partner organisations, with careful limits, real exports and real offboarding.

  5. Public beta, then general availabilityNot started

Open sign-up once the service can welcome new organisations without manual work, and only then a full launch.

Questions about MellowBase

When will MellowBase be available?

There is no launch date yet. The foundations are built and tested internally. Before anyone outside Polynovea uses it, it has to pass a security and privacy review, then a private beta with a small group of partner organisations, then a public beta.

How is MellowBase different from the open-source version?

It is the same Content Operations Platform, not a separate product. With MellowBase, Polynovea runs it for you: hosting, upgrades, backups, monitoring, security and support. The open-source version stays free for anyone who wants to run it themselves.

Can I leave MellowBase and take my content with me?

Yes. MellowBase is designed so you can export your content models, content, media and site structure and run them on the open-source version yourself. When you close an organisation, its data is designed to be deleted everywhere it is stored, not just hidden.

Does MellowBase contribute to your research?

Yes, by default, and openly. MellowBase is designed to contribute structured records of how content work moves, such as steps, timing, reviews and approvals, to HBIF, our research into how people behave. Names, email addresses, logins and passwords are removed before anything reaches research, and your content isn't part of it. Your organisation can switch off future contribution in its settings without affecting the service, and records already contributed are kept only for the declared research period. None of this starts until MellowBase's research notice is published.
